I've always had a love for the ocean, going on adventures, exploring new places, art, dancing, the outdoors, music and my mom's macaroni & cheese.
I believe in the power of imagination and play. I feel lucky to have grown up before the age of tablets and "screen time". TV wasn't that big of a deal in my household (unless a Disney movie was on) but making pies out of mud and building box forts was. I played with barbies, dressed up my little sister, got into my mom's make-up and made myself look like a clown. I rode my tricycle, did arts and crafts - I remember my older sister helping me make this pretty awesome paper plate hat that I sported like a rich countess, and a friend of hers helped me create planets and stars to hang from my bedroom ceiling. Kids are so full of creative juices. They need to be given space to learn, explore and create, to be so free!

"Mom and Dad went off for about two hours to go look at houses and I made four dollars by babysitting Mikaela. We made a beach in the bathroom and the tub was the ocean and there was a tanning towel on the floor and we had popsicles."
I've kept journals sporadically throughout my life and one of my favourite things is to go back and read the thoughts I had years ago. I love to write. I enjoy putting my thoughts down on paper because I feel like my head is in the clouds half the time and I need a place that will ground me. I love poetry, listening to stories and watching plays/shows. My favourite writer/poet growing up was Shel Silverstein - He was SO weird, the ideas that came out of his mind were really quite out of this world and his work both inspired me and made me laugh!
The reason I'm focusing so much on my childhood here is because my books are not about me or for me, and they're not for you either! (I mean I love them and if you love them too, I'm a happy lady!) but the stories I write are for the littles. The kiddos who are learning and exploring and need encouragement each day to fully embrace everything that they're capable of, to shoot for the stars. My hope is that I never loose hold of the special memories I made as a kid, and to remember to keep things simple, because life itself was simple back then and it was good.
I’ve fallen in love with writing and illustrating children’s books. I believe in an UN-plugged childhood and I hope that our society never loses the magical experience of physically opening a book, feeling the pages between their fingers, learning new words & ideas and exploring through fun illustrations.
Thanks so much for checking me out, and I hope you'll follow along with this Little Sparks adventure!
